DANIEL DOWNING

Originally from Wollongong, Daniel trained at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music studying with Karen Cummings and Greg Shand.

He also trained in all styles of dance from a young age at The Linda Shaw Dance Centre.

After graduating from Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts in 2009, Daniel moved straight on to complete the Music Theatre Diploma at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) under the direction of Avigail Herman, graduating in 2010 at the age of 19.

Since graduating, Daniel has done numerous corporate events, shows and recordings with SMA Productions in their act The Boys in the Band, and recorded their first album in 2011. He was also lucky enough to work with Baz Luhrman on the remake of The Great Gatsby with Bazmark Films III.

Daniel toured with the Australian cast of WICKED (’11-’12), performing for 12 months in Singapore and South Korea as the Male Vocal Swing, understudying the roles of the Father and Dr. Dillamond. After returning back to Australian soil, he went straight into a one-man show at the Sydney Opera House as part of the prestigious Babies Proms, under the direction of Jane Miskovic and CDP Productions.

Daniel rejoined the Australian cast for the 10th Anniversary tour of WICKED, performing seasons in New Zealand the Phillipines and the final Australian Tour.

Daniel was thrilled to be premiere his new show Almost Home- The Untold Stories of Judy Garland at the 2016 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival, under the direction of Jason Langley and Musical Direction of Bev Kennedy in March 2016.

Most recently, Daniel has performed in Kinky Boots featuring in both the successful and Australian premier tour as well as London’s West End production.
