Deirdre Khoo originally hails from the sunny island of Singapore and relocated to Australia to pursue her passion in performing arts. Deirdre grew up surrounded by all facets of the arts, having started both classical ballet and piano at a tender age of three. She is a 2020 Music Theatre graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, with training in both musical theatre and film & television. Deirdre is also a proud semi-finalist of the 2020 Artists of Colour (AOC) Initiative.
Prior to WAAPA, Deirdre originated the role of Julia O’Brien in a new Australian musical 2084, that premiered at the Nexus Theatre in Western Australia. While at WAAPA, her most notable roles include Allison Vernon-Williams in Cry-Baby (dir. Chris Parker), Rosie in Mamma Mia (dir. Shaun Rennie) and Maggie Winslow/Vocal Captain in A Chorus Line (dir. Crispin Taylor). Other credits include Scotty in Merrily We Roll Along (dir. Brent Hill), the Oathtaker in The Wonderful World of Dissocia (dir. Michael McCall), and ensemble/Kylie understudy in Strictly Ballroom (dir. Crispin Taylor).
Most recently, Deirdre co-founded a not-for-profit organisation Future Oz Inc. that has held several virtual livestream concerts during the 2020 COVID lockdown and connects graduating music theatre students all over Australia.
