Lucy Durack will make a welcome return to the musical theatre stage next year.
Durack has been cast to play Princess Fiona in Shrek The Musical, alongside Ben Mingay in the title role.
“The more I listen to the music, the more I become a mega fan because it just has such a positive message,” Durack says.
“I’m really moved by this show which says be true to yourself, that everyone is different and that is something to be celebrated.”
With her second child, a boy, to be born in seven weeks, Durack will start Shre k rehearsals when he is only five weeks old.
She learnt the big tap dance number when she was seven months pregnant.
“I was in Wicked until I was five months pregnant with my daughter Polly so we’re used to it,” she says.
Shrek is a musical many in the industry have regarded as ideal for Mingay for some time so, when he was invited to audition, he was thrilled.
“The music really suits my voice and I love playing a funny character,” Mingay says.
“The show is about being an outsider. Even though he’s an ogre, everyone has felt like an outsider or not in the cool group at some point so this is a really nice role.
“So many people out there are feeling pressure to look a certain way so it’s great to do something where you’re promoting self-confidence no matter who you are.”
Tickets for Shrek The Musical go on sale at Ticketek this Friday.
