Fiona Gillman is a writer, director and performer from Townsville, North Queensland.
After completing a Bachelor of Musical Theatre, she moved to Sydney to study a Diploma of Screen and Media at Sydney Film School.
Here is where she found her niche in comedy, winning “best screenplay” at the Sydney Film School Festival for her first script Generation Girl. Fiona then wrote, directed and starred in the musical comedy To The Top! which won multiple awards, including Fiona winning “most outstanding performance” judged by Star Now.
Fiona’s web series concept The Virgin Intervention was funded by Screen Australia through the Gender Matters initiative. The pilot, written by and starring Fiona and directed by Erin White, was filmed in 2017 and the series received further development funding in 2018.
Fiona was also selected to be part of ABC iView’s Fresh Blood initiative, and the sketch series which she wrote, directed and starred in Too Pretty to be Witty aired on ABC iView and the ABC comedy channel.
Fiona is an active member of the Improv Theatre Sydney community and in 2020 won multiple awards in the Improv Theatre Sydney online sketch competition judged by Aisling Bea and Roisin Conaty, and hosted by Steen Raskopoulos. Fiona recently co-starred with Ezekiel Simat in the Mamamia sketch Explaining Consent with Dinner and is a frequent guest of the comedy group Skit Box, being featured in their viral hit Activewear as well as the ABC series Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am. Fiona just completed production as an improviser for a 7mate series to be released in 2021.
